Overview
Ladakh, a mountainous region in northern India, is famous for its breathtaking landscapes, rich heritage, and distinctive culture. In the past, it was a crucial section of the ancient Silk Route, serving as a medium of trade between Tibet, China, and India. Ladkah was ruled by several dynasties, including the Namgyal rulers, who protected it from foreign invasions. The Dogras annexed ladakh to the Sikh Empire in 1834, and subsequently, it was a part of British India. Since the independence of India in 1947, Ladakh became a region of Jammu and Kashmir, and in 2019 it was made a Union Territory of India. Ladakh is famous for its Tibetan Buddhist culture, as monasteries such as Hemis, Thisky, and Diskit demonstrate its spiritual importance. Ladakh’s geography, with cold deserts and high mountain passes like khardung La, is an ecological wonder. Presently, it is favorite tourism spot for adventure tourism, cultural discovery, and ecological studies.
